Video-pills with parents

The section provides a collection of video pills specifically targeted to parents to give them practical advices on how to deal with sensitive topics with pre-adolescent boys and girls as a fundamental step to identify early signs, prevent potential risks and deal with alcohol use and abuse.
The videos deal with different topics such as listening to pre-adolescents, changes in the relationship between parents and children in adolescence, physical and psychological growth, the culture of alcohol and the importance of talking about it in the family, the importance of the group and the issue of new challenges.

Listening

This video pill describes the importance of a proper listening attitude of adults towards youngsters in the preadolescent and early adolescent phase. The suggested path is listening without prejudice and judgemental attitude, which would lead to closure, while still reading signals coming from language and behaviours to go beyond words.


To Be and Not To Be

The video pill follows and intepret the changes occuring in the interaction and communication, and therefore also in the emotional connection, between parents and youngsters during their transition from preadolescence to adolescence. and the importance of being present to identify and prevent risky behavior.


Growing

The video pill outlines the interconnections between the physical and psychological growth of youngsters and how these affect their attitude and behaviours towards alcohol. The video also explores how the same processes will change the effects that alcohol use and abuse can cause on the body, the mind and the emotions of preadolescents and adolescents.


Drinking Culture

The video pill provides a reflection on the different cultural aspects that affect and influence the possible perceptions of alcohol use and abuse. Using this as a starting point the video also addresses the importance of an aware talking within the family, so to enhance the awareness of the consequences that alcohol abuse can lead to.


Friendship

The video pill addresses and outlines groups of youngsters dynamics. For preadolescents and adolescents, the group of friends, is at the same time a safe environment in which they feel free to interact, have fun and mirror oneself with others. At the same time is a potential source of anxiety, unaware emulation in search of recognition and sometimes the starting point of a unhealthy and risky attitude towards alcohole consumption. To understand these dynamics is important for parents, not to judge, but to try and prevent problems.


Limits

The final video addresses a troublesome issue. The sense of limit. Challenges and problems cannot be cancelled, prohibiting alcohol use is possible but often not effective. Knowing risks, explaining the danger and outlining the effects that certaing choices can lead to is often more effective that just pretending that the problem is not there.
